FIRA DE BARCELONA
| 2013 REPORT
In 2013 Fira de Barcelona has carried out
its activity in a context still dominated by the
recession, although the institution has achieved
good results.
Once more, the economic situation has been
particularly complex for SMEs, which are the
backbone of the productive fabric of the country
and also the bulk of the exhibitors and visitors of
the events at Fira. It is worth mentioning, however,
that there seem to be signs of some improvement
in the macroeconomic indicators, in spite of not
having yet reached citizens or companies.
In this context, which is also complex for other
Spanish and European trade organizations, Fira
de Barcelona has overcome the situation and has
proven its organizational, strategic and managing
capacity. The turnover achieved by the institution
in 2013 amounted to 117,831 million euros,
almost 11% higher than the initial budget.
The institution’s main concern has been to
support companies and economic sectors in
their efforts to overcome the crisis and start
on the path towards reactivation. Among the
measures taken are the continuity of all the
shows, innovation policies related to products and
trade fair services, and internationalization in both
ways: by helping companies to go abroad and by
bringing international business to Fira events.
It is obvious that the confluence of SMEs and
entrepreneus with international companies and
professional visitors can only generate synergies.
To sum up, we can say that the good results are
a combination of strategy, innovation, efficiency,
expenditure restraint and an improvement of the
services given by our institution.
