The Manga Fair broke its own records on his first
event at Fira. In the Montjuïc venue, it enjoyed a
60% of additional space for exhibition and received
100,000 visitors, which surpassed by 70% the
figures of the 2011 event, held at La Farga de
l’Hospitalet.
Japanese gastronomy and culture were the
highlights of the event. Visitors could taste the
best of Japanese cuisine in the restaurants area,
visit the «Manga a la carta» display and take part
in the gastronomic workshops, notably including
two conducted by Ferran Adrià and Hiroyoshi
Ishida.Other sessions featured chefs such as
Hideki Matsuhisa, Maestro Tan, Takashi Ochiai,
Kenji Ueno, Mutsuo Kowaki, Hiroki Yoshiyuki or
Natalia Mazarredo.
There were also lectures and discussions, given
by significant writers like Hiro Mashima, author of
Fairy Tail; Nozomu Tamaki, author of the Japanese
True Blood, Dancing with Vampires; and Toshiyuki
Kubooka, anime director.
One of the most popular activities, attended by
many manga enthusiasts, were the otakus, the
karaoke and cosplay contests, and the pop concerts
by Japanese bands.
The show celebrated the 20th anniversary of
Dragon Ball’s arrival in Spain, with an exhibition and
a meeting, where the Guinness Record for people
dressed as the show’s characters was broken
with 307 participants. There were also two other
exhibitions: one devoted to Porco Rosso, a classic
manga by master Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli;
and another one showing costumes inspired by this
fiction genre (cosplay).

Finding different ways of providing better
healthcare was never more in demand than now.
The growth and aging of the population, along
with a restrictive economic context, call for new
healthcare structures that can provide better
healthcare quality without rising the budgets of
health centres and health systems.
These sessions, attended by more than
900 professionals, dealt with issues such as
chronicity management, teleassistance and
the impact of the new information
technologies on communication and
the healthcare sector, the promotion of
innovation among clinical staffs or the
analysis of success stories, such as the case
of the American healthcare provider Kaiser
Permanente.
More than 70 speakers took part, featuring Ron
Kikinis, founder of the Surgical Planning Laboratory,
Harvard (Boston, USA); Andrew Dillon, Chief
Executive at the National Institute for Health &
Clinical Excellence (NICE), United Kingdom; and
Hung Chi-Tim, Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon
Central, Hong Kong.
Experts concluded that the challenges of the
sector might only be met by innovative recipes
that combine higher process efficiency, proper
integration of the new technologies available and
a radical change of focus in the medical culture,
which embraces precautionary principles and aims
at keeping people’s health instead of treating them
after they become sick.

The future will be mobile. This is the first
conclusion reached by the world benchmark show
for mobile technologies after its seventh event
in Fira. From its arrival in Barcelona, the Mobile
World Congress has not ceased to grow, achieving
unprecedented results in 2012 for almost all its
events, surpassing for the first time the figure
of 67,000 visitors, 1,500 exhibitors and 3,300
accredited journalists. These figures certify the
importance of a trade that is no longer closed on
itself but cross-sectorial.
For the first time in the show’s history, the congress
welcomed companies from fields other than
communications, such as the automotive company
Ford, willing to show its commitment to connectivity.
This opened a door which companies from other
sectors will surely cross in the next years, proving
that mobile technology is an integral part of our
everyday lives.
During four days, heads of companies such
as Alcatel-Lucent, AT&T, Best Buy, Bharti
Airtel, China Mobile, Cisco Systems, Citigroup,
Deutsche Telekom, eBay, Ericsson, Facebook,
Ford Motor Company, Foursquare, Google,
HTC, Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, Telefónica, Telenor
Group, Visa Inc., Vodafone y ZTE gave lectures
and took part in discussions about what will
be the cornerstones of the industry of mobile
technology in the near future.
Conferences covered a wide rage of subjects,
such as applications, cloud computing,
mobile advertising, mobile payment, the
impact of mobile technology in the health
sphere, new business strategies, integrated
IT systems, network capacity, social networks
and technologies for the next generation of
networks, among others.
Mobile World Capital
After the designation of Barcelona as Mobile
World Capital for 2013-2018, the project
presented its strategic plan of action on the
best possible stage: the congress. In the
presentation, the directors of Mobile World
Capital Barcelona outlined the details of a
venture based on four pillars: Mobile World
Congress and Mobile World Hub, mainly
focused on the industrial and business
sphere, and Mobile World Centre and Mobile
World Festival, more social and focused on
the citizens. The estimated global economic
impact approaches the 3,500 million euros.
The Mobile World Congress is Organised by
GSMA, the international association with over 800
member companies from 220 countries and more
than 200 companies from the so-called mobile
applications ecosystem. As a partner of GSMA,
Fira de Barcelona was responsible for the Internet
preaccreditation process, accreditation at the event
and control of access to the conference, as well as
the logistic organisation and management of the
exhibition, management of the exhibition’s assembly
service, restaurant and catering management, and
customer and visitor services

In 2012, Ocasión had more space and more
visitors, and hosted 1,895 second-hand vehicles,
the highest offer in the last years. With more
vehicles, discounts and promotions, it broke its own
record for sales: 1,095 units, 55% more than last
year, worth 22 million euros.
Almost all the vehicles were three-years old or
less, coming from Km0, management, business
fleets and renting, subject to a strict control policy
of admission by the company Dekra, in order to
guarantee its perfect condition.
The main attraction were the many cars registered
in 2012, which could receive 2,000 euros from
the PIVE Plan, as long as the car was less than
one-year-old and met the requirements about
energetic efficiency, price lower than 25,000
euros and was exchanged by a car that was twelve
years old or more. The preferences of visitors were
divided between mid-range utility cars, with prices
ranging between 8,000 and 15,000 euros and
cars of German brands with higher prices, around
25,000 euros. Some units from the premium
segment were also sold, as well as a few luxury
sports cars.
Ocasión is traditionally organised in collaboration
with the Catalan Federation of Motor Vehiclem in
order to catalyse used car sales at the end of the
year, when companies renew their stock. In 2012,
