          Other collaborations were also established in the
        
        
          fields of science, university and education, and
        
        
          Fira contributed through its events to voice civic
        
        
          values, collaborative attitudes, sustainability and
        
        
          environmental protection. In relation to this, it
        
        
          continued to develop a policy of recycling and
        
        
          energetic efficiency, reinforced by the adoption
        
        
          of technological measures like the «NFC Badge»,
        
        
          which reduces the use of certain materials.
        
        
          Institutional relations
        
        
          Throughout 2013, the Area of Institutional Relations
        
        
          developed an intense activity to respond to all
        
        
          the requirements coming from the inauguration
        
        
          of major events held at the Fira venues and the
        
        
          visit of representatives from the Administration
        
        
          and various institutions, as well as to give
        
        
          support to representative tasks by the presidency
        
        
          of Administration Council and the General
        
        
          Management, among others.
        
        
          Noteworthy was the meeting of the Institutional
        
        
          Commission, presided by the President of the
        
        
          Government of Catalonia, the two General
        
        
          Councils in July and December, and the meetings
        
        
          of the events’ organising committees.
        
        
          Communications
        
        
          In 2013, the Communications Area managed a
        
        
          significant information flow about the shows and
        
        
          events held by the institution, about the activity
        
        
          carried out in Fira and about corporate policies.
        
        
          In addition to the relations with the media, which
        
        
          are progressively overcoming the divide between
        
        
          conventional and online and are becoming more
        
        
          and more multi-channel, it has also paid special
        
        
          attention to corporate media, like its Twitter
        
        
          account, with 7,500 followers; the institutional
        
        
          blog; Firanews magazine, and the corporate
        
        
          webpage, which received more than 600,000
        
        
          visits throughout the year.
        
        
          The shows’ websites received almost three million
        
        
          visits, and social networks (Facebook, Twitter,
        
        
          LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) reached more than
        
        
          153,000 followers.
        
        
          More than 10,000 journalists were accredited for
        
        
          the events held by Fira and more than 21,300
        
        
          information pieces were generated about the
        
        
          shows, congresses and corporate activities.
        
        
          Overall, the institution and trade activity received
        
        
          wide media coverage.
