FIRA DE BARCELONA

          | 2013

          REPORT

The show consolidated itself as the leading event

for experience-based tourism, presenting a wide

offer specialized in areas such as gastronomy

and wine tourism, cruises and camping, among

others. Proposals like gastronomic routes, visits to

wineries and activities in touch with nature, which

allow the traveller to enjoy tailor-made holidays.

In this sense, as a new feature, SITC created a

space devoted to rural tourism and a gastronomy

area to promote the touristic attractions of the

Costa Brava, and it set up again an area devoted

          to camping.

With the aim of promoting domestic tourism,

the show gathered a wide range of proximity

destinations, with the collaboration of the vast

majority of Spanish regional departments. In the

international sphere, there were 50 exhibiting

          countries, including Mediterranean and European

destinations such as France Czech Republic, Italy

or Croatia, Latin American destinations, such

as Peru, Argentina, Mexico or Cuba, and Asian

destinations, such as China, India or Iran. Travel

agencies offered special discounts on a wide

range of touristic activities around the world.

Other highlights were the area devoted to

cruises, the «Desert’s Door», featuring companies

specialized in adventures along the north of Africa,

and the new Innovation Zone space, with the city’s

          most innovative touristic start-ups.

As for the professional sphere, SITC hosted

significant seminars, like the 3rd International

Congress on Asian Tourism, organised by Casa

Asia, Turespaña, the Catalan Agency of Tourism,

Turisme de Barcelona and SITC; the seminar about

«The future of tourism», featuring companies such

as Google, eDreams or Expedia, and a gathering

of more than 100 travel bloggers.
