          Solutions for Better Cities

          19-21/November

          Gran Via. 3rd event

The third event of Smart City Expo World

Congress was the most successful one to date

for this international show for smart cities. The

Gran Via venue hosted 9,000 visitors, almost

400 cities and 29 international delegations,

including emerging countries such as Brazil,

China, Colombia, India or Malaysia, experiencing

significant urban migratory movements and the

          construction of megacities.

The event was also visited by delegates

from other countries such as Argentina, Canada,

Denmark, United States, Finland, Hong Kong,

          Israel, Japan, United Kingdom, Singapore

          and Sweden.

The international visibility of the show also

favoured a treaty with the Kyoto Prefecture to host

a Japanese event in 2014, an initiative resulting

from the expansion process of Smart City Expo

World Congress and from the internationalization

          strategy of Fira de Barcelona.

The event also hosted conferences by some

of the world leading thinkers and experts, such

as Richard Florida, economist and expert on

          urban development; Amory Lovins, environmental

          of the MIT Changing Places research group;

Anthony Townsend research director of the

Institute for the Future USA; Amitabh Kant, Chief

Also, the smart cities summit became in 2013

a real world hub of sustainable transportation

by being held simultaneously with EVS27, the

          leading International Electric Vehicle Symposium,
