          The landmark show for lovers of manga and
        
        
          Japanese culture increased its 2012 venue area
        
        
          to meet the high expectations of returning visitors.
        
        
          This year’s event centred on the presence
        
        
          of sports in manga and anime, with the exhibition
        
        
          «Manga at play» featuring the most significant
        
        
          works of this genre. Sumo wrestlers like
        
        
          Kôtarô Mieda and Shinya Miyashita performed
        
        
          sumo exhibitions.
        
        
          Another exhibition, «Our mangakas», paid tribute
        
        
          to Spanish authors captivated by manga who
        
        
          have created a new genre within Spanish comic
        
        
          books. The show hosted other exhibitions devoted
        
        
          to Dragon Ball, to the manga books One Piece
        
        
          and Toriki, to the 400th anniversary of the Keicho
        
        
          Embassy and
        
        
          to illustrator Marta Noel.
        
        
          Other guests were authors like Shintaro Kago,
        
        
          Li Kunwu, Takehiko Inoue, Yoichi Takahash and the
        
        
          animation director Daisuke Nishio, and there was
        
        
          also an important presence of Japanese videogames
        
        
          creators and producers, such as Januchi Maseda,
        
        
          creative mind of Pokemon, one of the most
        
        
          successful videogame licenses.
        
        
          Among other activities, there were workshops
        
        
          on manga and Japanese traditional games,
        
        
          on kimonos and Japanese cuisine, as well as areas
        
        
          for videogames, concerts, dances and cosplay
        
        
          and karaoke contests. Of special interest was
        
        
          the presence of Japanese singer Aiko Nakano,
        
        
          the Japanese band Loverin Tamburin, Korean
        
        
          singer and actor Shin Minchul, and the Spanish
        
        
          band Templeton.
        
        
          The event received the support of the Barcelona
        
        
          City Council and the cooperation of the Japan
        
        
          Foundation, Casa Asia and the Japanese Consulate
        
        
          in Barcelona, among other organizations.
