          Innovation Forum in Pharmaceutical Process

          29-30/October

          Montjuïc. 1st event

PharmaProcess Forum, the first European event

          specialised in pharmaceutical processes, placed

stress on drug manufacturing from cell and

molecular biology as a trend of the future. Likewise,

it dealt with a big challenge of the pharmaceutical

industry on a global scale, which is the control

of falsified drugs, especially those sold on the

Internet, since between 7% and 10% of the drugs

sold on the web are thought to be fake.

The new event hinged on three axes:

Development, about the process that goes from

          the first formula to the industrialization phase;

          Biopharmatech, dealing with new pharmaceutical

products being produced with the help of

          biotechnology; and Operations, which centred

          around manufacturing and distribution.

Speakers put stress on the importance

of innovation, an area in which the global

pharmaceutical sector invested more than 120

billion dollars in 2012, compared to the 45 billion

          dollars of 2001.

The first event of the fair brought together

          more than 200 delegates, 55 speakers, 50

exhibitors and a large number of professional

visitors, which exceeded the initial estimates

          of the organization.

A special highlight was the participation

of Eduardo Pisani, General Director of the

          International Federation of Pharmaceutical

          Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA),

          a non-governmental organization formed

by 25 companies and 52 associations of the

global pharmaceutical industry, as well as Gisele

Roesems, Deputy Head of the Health and

Well-being Unit of the European Commission,

and Belén Crespo, Director of The Spanish

Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices.
