          Montjuïc. 35th event (Expominer) / 2nd event (Colecciona Barcelona)
        
        
          Collectors and lovers of minerals, jewellery,
        
        
          fossils, stamps, coins and other objects were
        
        
          able to enjoy their hobbies at the simultaneous
        
        
          events of Expominer, devoted to minerals, fossils
        
        
          and jewellery, and Colecciona Barcelona, the
        
        
          Philately, Numismatics and Collectors Exhibition,
        
        
          organized by Fira de Barcelona and the Philately
        
        
          and Numismatics Guild, with the cooperation of
        
        
          the Spanish National Association of Philatelic and
        
        
          Numismatic Businesses (ANFIL).
        
        
          Both events exhibited a wide range of
        
        
          collectable products: stamps, coins and notes
        
        
          from different periods, medals, engravings,
        
        
          champagne lids, miniatures, thimbles, old posters
        
        
          and photographs, in addition to a great display
        
        
          of minerals, jewellery, precious and semiprecious
        
        
          stones, fossils and meteorites.
        
        
          The stars of Colecciona Barcelona were
        
        
          two personalised stamps and an envelope
        
        
          commemorating the 100th anniversary of La
        
        
          Pedrera, Antoni Gaudí’s emblematic work included
        
        
          on the UNESCO World Heritage List and now
        
        
          headquarters of the Fundació Catalunya-La
        
        
          Pedrera, a celebration which has thus entered
        
        
          the philatelic annals. A stamp and an envelope
        
        
          commemorating the 25th anniversary of the
        
        
          Josep Carreras Leukaemia Foundation were also
        
        
          presented. This research centre has been working
        
        
          since 1988 to find a cure for this kind of cancer.
        
        
          While the commercial exhibit aimed at
        
        
          fostering the sale of the objects on display, the
        
        
          shows pretended to inform about the cultural
        
        
          heritage associated with geology, philately and
        
        
          numismatics, as well as to encourage the younger
        
        
          visitors to embrace collecting as a formative
        
        
          leisure activity.
